What options do you have for someone looking to move to Chicago and find housing?
My name is Ben Neiswander, and I am the campus director here in Chicago. I recently made the move from NYC to CHI so just spent some time apartment hunting (albeit I was looking for a longer term lease than you likely are).
When I moved, I booked an Airbnb for 2 weeks to give myself some time to get to know the area and settled at a really great spot called River North Park3. They have flexible lease terms, but they may be prohibitively expensive for shorter leases and I don't believe any apartments are furnished.
I also looked at Oakwood 200 Squared2 which has furnished apartments but is also on the more expensive end.
Students who have moved to Chicago typically sublease or use this forum to go in on housing with a fellow student. They typically stay off of the Red, Brown, or Blue lines for an easy commute to our campus.
Some Facebook groups you can use to inquire are:
Chicago Housing, Rooms, Apartments, Sublets - This group is for finding rooms & roommates. To make it easy to find relevant posts, please add [WANTED] or [OFFER] in front of your listing.
University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Housing, Su... - This is the off-campus housing Facebook page for University of Illinois at Chicago
Chicago Sublets, Apartments & Roommates - Use this group to find apartments and roommates in the Greater Chicago Area. Post your own sublet, find a rental/apartment, or connect with potential roommates.
As well as craigslist.
I'm not personally familiar with Chicago Summer Housing, but looking into university summer housing is a great idea.
I hope this helps, and I look forward to meeting you! - Ben
